Calle Capuzzi is in a wonderful location, just off Fondamenta Bragadin, a few yards from the popular canal San Vio in the residential heart of Dorsoduro. This area has always been popular because it is relatively quiet and peaceful, away from the mass tourism that does blight the small streets (calle) around St. Marks and Rialto and yet this part of Dorsoduro is very close to main attractions such as Accademia, the Guggenheim and the famous baroque church Santa Maria della Salute that seems to sit like a great wedding cake at the opening of the Grand Canal. Popular squares ('campi' in Venice) such as San Barnaba and Santa Margherita are only a short walk away. The more exclusive Campo San Stefano is just across the Grand Canal.
The apartment is in fact a large studio of about 45 square metres. Originally this was a 'magazino' (a storage space). In modernising the property we decided to keep the three ancient arches which give the apartment a lot of character and of course hold up the floors above!! The arches effectively divide the apartment into two halves, on one side, entrance, dining area, kitchen and bathroom; on the other the seating and bedroom areas with windows onto a back garden (unfortunately belonging to someone else.)
In the photos below you can see the completed renovation. You can see from the photo on the right that it was in need of a serious 'make-over' !!
