Location
Calle de la Madona is in Dorsoduro the sestiere which occupies much of the south side of the Grand Canal. Lying at the western end it borders Santa Croce the smallest sestiere. The apartment is very conveniently located for access in and out of Venice, either arrivals by plane, cruise ship or road.
90 percent of arrivals into Venice are from the airport (Marco Polo) and thence to Piazzale Roma via bus / coach. Piazzale Roma is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk to the flat as you can see on the map below.
The area has sufficient shops and restaurants to satisfy most people's needs and is generally quiet and peaceful. Although Calle de la Madona is not in the very centre of Venice around Rialto or St. Marks, for most people it is all the better for that. The centre is often too crowded and not relaxing at all as there is such a throng of people in the narrow streets that it is often difficult to move. From 'Madona' (Venetian spelling) it is still easy to reach all places of interest either on foot or by vaporetto (water bus). The stops are within easy walking distance, either from Piazzale Roma or San Basilio.
